Rec FAQs

Q: How much does rec cost?

A: Rec soccer costs $65 before early bird and $80 after. Fees cover costs for the full season, games, coaching support for parent coaches, player and referee fees, insurance, as well as a reversible WSA jersey.

Q: Will my player be assigned to a team?

A: Yes! All registered rec players will be assigned to an age-appropriate team. Each team will require at least two volunteer coaches.

Q: When do we practice and when are the games?

A: Teams in grades K through 4 will practice Wednesday evenings. Teams in grades K through 4 will play in matches on Saturday mornings. Micro and Pre-K teams will practice and play matches on Saturday mornings. See the full schedule below.

Q: How does WSA assign coaches and form teams?

A: Coaches will be identified based on volunteerism within active registrations. If too few parents volunteer, WSA’s Rec Commissioner and Marketing Director will contact player parents until a coach is identified.

Teams are formed based on age and friend requests. WSA will do its best to place no more than ten players on Micro, Pre-K, K, and 1st and 2nd-grade teams to maximize playing time since these groups play in a 4v4 format. 3rd and 4th-grade teams play in a 9v9 format; therefore, the rosters are typically bigger.

Q: How do I become a coach?

A: For WSA’s Spring Recreational Soccer Program to succeed, teams rely on the volunteer efforts of parent coaches like you!

To become a parent coach, please select the appropriate box during registration or contact us at wsadmaxfield@yahoo.com.

Q: I’m not sure I’m qualified to coach…

A: WSA will support coaches with detailed practice plans and hosting a Rec Coaches Clinic before the season. During this clinic, WSA’s Technical Director and Rec Commissioners will provide an overview of WSA’s development philosophy and the first week’s practice plan. WSA’s Technical Director will deliver subsequent practice plans via e-mail before each week’s practice. WSA’s Technical Director, Rec Commissioners, and WSA Board members will also be onsite at practices and games to assist coaches and teams as needed.

Q: What does my player need to wear?

A: Players must wear shinguards, soccer socks, and cleats to practice and games. Each rec player will receive a reversible rec jersey for Saturday games. For practice, players can wear comfortable athletic clothing.

Q: How will I get my rec jersey?

A: WSA’s Director of Uniforms will coordinate a Uniform Pickup Day for all players. Please add westlakesoccerinformation@gmail.com to your contact list so you can get all important updates about uniforms and the season.

Q: Does my player need any gear?

A: Yes! Each player needs a soccer ball. All Micro, Pre-K, and Kindergarten players need a size 3 soccer ball. Players in 1st grade and above require a size 4 soccer ball. Players also need a water bottle.

Q: What happens if there’s bad weather when we’re supposed to practice or play?

A: WSA will email a closure notice to all players by 4 pm. The notice will also be posted to WSA’s website and Facebook page. Follow WSA here. Please also add westlakesoccerinformation@gmail.com to your contact list, so you can get all important updates.

Q: My player played Fall Rec. Do I still need to register for Spring Rec?

A: Yes! WSA split rec into two separate registrations.
