I.     Review/Approval of March Minutes

 

Motion to Approve, 2nd, approved unanimously

 

Guests: Kate Shank – U8 Director and WHS Women’s Coach; Nick Bell – 1st Coach Grade Girls Rec; John Gorbach – WIST Committee, U12 Boys Coach; Kim Murphy – WIST Committee; Rashid Rashid – Travel Coach 2013 girls, 2014 boys; John Joyce – Travel Coach – with Keith and Wes; Alex Kristenack – Resource Aid at WES

 

II.     U8 Academy & Futsal: Kate Shank and Mark Purcell

  • First week practice went well – working on 7v7 formations.
  • Boys 4 new players starting with outdoor, previous concerns for lower headcount no longer an issue.

 

III.     Travel Program: Keith Allen and Sarah Eckel

  • Coaches meeting went well
  • Tryouts – sign up sheet – all but 5 groups has signed up.
  • Boys – U9 2015 team struggling to find a coach. Gameday coach is secured, North will run one practice per week, cannot find a committed coach.
  • Sooper Silent Sunday – April 28th

 

  • Outreach: Sarah – WIST Donation Boxes – Hope Center Soccer Camp, refugee soccer camps – Volunteer opportunities, adult and students can volunteer.  Sarah will sent information / sign-up for volunteer opportunity.

 

IV.     Rec Program: Drew Maxfield

  • Updated registration report – 475 players, registration closes tomorrow
  • Coaches note – went out yesterday – Coaching requirements via GotSport have went out, but many have said they have not received.  – Working on resolution.
  • Team formation will be finalized and announced by Sunday
  • 50 Volunteers across the entirety
  • Coaches Clinic Saturday
  • Coaches Meeting – first regularly scheduled practice
  • Fields being lined, Goals will be set shortly.

 

V.     Westlake Soccer Association: Christian Giardini

  • TOCA – has indoor training space available for pre-booking for River or Westlake locations.  We are able to pre-book without penalty for non-use, so WSA will pre-book now in order to mitigate weather related practice cancelations.

 

VI.     Fields & Facilities: Larry Wolf

  •  Larry unavailable – will request assistance on field set up as needed

 

VII.     Special Programming: Karen Szytec

  • Rec uniforms – OK for Spring, no need to order additional at this time.  Reassess prior to Fall ’24.
  • Coaches Apparel – Order required for Coaches Apparel – Polo, Green T, and ¼ zip to be ordered.
  • Vlado – ½ season payment to be sent.  Paid in two equal payments.

 

VIII.     Westlake Invitational Soccer Tournament: Dan Kovach

  • 92 teams already, largest registration week is typically next week, following start of travel season.  3 large orgs that registers a large number of teams regularly, have yet to register. 200 teams registered will be no problem, 225 more realistic.  May need to cut off registrations.  Will review registrations and reach out if additional teams are needed to fill a brackets.
  • Friday games are a must, worked great last year.
  • Needs Site Coordinators – paid $15/hour – college students or responsible high school students. – this year is graduation weekend, so conflicts will be likely
  • Committee Meetings Scheduled – starting Monday 4/15

 

IX.     Marketing & Comms: Joanna DeChellis

  • Storage Unit – Clear out – will be organized in June.

 

X.      Scheduling

  • Wes – 2-week open rescheduling is closed- 50% of games changed.
  • Conflict – reach out to opposing coach – contacts are on OHTSL – one on one agreement to a rescheduled time.  – reach out to Wes if we initiated, if opponent rescheduled, they must initiate.  Max 3 reschedules in season, for approval 6pm 5 days prior to current game date (both communities).  Weather does not count.  Weather follows same reschedule though.
